Sawyer's way

On Sunday at about 5:00 the kids brought out pillows and covers. Sawyer asked if they could stay outside until the bats started flying (3.5 hours later). He loves to watch the bats near our marsh! He also loves to make silly faces.

I heard Sawyer talking to himself while playing in the family room, making sure the pictures lined up and the "ABCs". Look how precise this kid is with Magformer building squares and wooden blocks! He even tried to match the colors when he could--quite an effort for a colorblind boy.

I routinely find cars, trains, and planes lined up as if a policeman were directing traffic. Can you see that on his train table?

This boy loves chocolate and peanut butter. He just finished scarfing down his peanut butter iced brownie and hot chocolate before taking the picture below. He's got a mean scowl he'll shoot you in an instant, but underneath he's got a heart of gold.

Alice starts 5K!!

Our sweet girl started kindergarten today with joy on her face and in her heart! The whole family walked her in to school after our new-normal early breakfast. She road the bus home, despite being a little afraid, and came off with a 5K crown, shining smile, and "School was GREAT today, Mommy!" Sawyer and I took her out for hot chocolate and a treat to celebrate and hear all about it. She notices so many details! (read her quotes below)

Mrs. Eaves is so nice. When she's upset she still uses pleasant words and voice. I made a new friend but I don't know her name. Can I not bring PBJs because the girl next to me is allergic to peanuts and I still want to sit next to her. Most of the girls have blond hair. The computer teacher is really good and I loved it. The whole school must eat when we do because the cafeteria was so full! I loved dancing to rock'n'roll music in class with my teacher. I didn't expect to read books in the morning before the bell. No one in my class bought their lunch. We played in the front playground and some girls even played house with me.

I'm a little sad to miss afternoon conversations and reading books on the bed with Alice. Now OTHER people will get more of her waking hours than I will! Another part of me is so delighted to have some hours to myself. I am so proud of her kindness, enthusiasm to try new things, and good attitude. I bet this will be fun :)

Alice quotes this week

We were listening to some new music when Alice started wiggling her shoulders and said, "My body really likes this music, Mom."

"I'm most excited about learning in Kindergarten this year."

"When I grow up I want to write a series of books about my life like Laura (Ingalls). If that doesn't work I would be a great librarian. But I hope I have your job with my children one day too."

"I wonder if people will even know who I am with my new straight hair." after using Miss Liz's hair straightener.
with SB Floyd, Liz's middle child
"Mama, why didn't you fall asleep reading my story today?"
me: Well, I had coffee this morning.
"I think you should do that every day."
