I flew from DC to Birmingham to be with Mama this week. Mark's proving, again, to be a great husband and father by keeping the kids in Charleston.
Since Thanksgiving Mama's cancer has moved to her liver, thyroid, enlarged around her kidneys, and most recently her colon. Good Friday she went to the hospital in excruiciating pain and they discovered colon cancer that created a partial obstruction. My sisters were in town to celebrate Easter together and I was glad to join them the next weekend, as pictured above.
She's out of the hospital now and taking it very easy at home. Yesterday, Wednesday, she started a new trial drug. Meeting with her oncologist encouraged me as he described the targeted therapy that kills only cancer tumors like hers and can have a positive impact seen in as early as 3-6 weeks.
It's been tough emotionally to watch her with pain and debilitating exhaustion. Daddy is compassionate and caring, with a side of hopeful and pushy as he struggles with Mama's sickness. Mama feels like she's in her "last days" but I wonder if that's true or if this new medicine can have a positive impact. I'm so thankful to see her love of the Lord shine despite these dark times.
Another major series of events is occuring at home. Mark's accepted a new job in Arlington, VA. We've accepted an offer on our house. Our offer on a house in Virginia was accepted this week.
