100 days of First Grade

Alice cut and counted 100 pieces of fringe that I sewed on her shirt to celebrate her 100th day of school. She loves art, music, reading and friends!

Fun Days in our Yard

It's been surprisingly warm for nearly a week around here. Alice enjoyed the trampoline with high flying tricks. Both kids are especially excited to have our tire swing back in action, soaring high above the sidewalk to smiles from passersby.

not all days this winter have been warm, so we enjoy each day we get!

Family Ski Day!

earlier picture of our snow-lovers at home
On Sunday we went to Virginia's version of Sky Valley, called Bryce Resort. It was an easy day trip to introduce the kids to skiing. They LOVED it. Both Alice and Sawyer are so proud to say, "I can ski," Mr. Athletic was very patient as he went up and down the beginner's slope with them and taught them to ski. I wasn't as good a teacher but could easily rescue them and cheer as they learned what it was to lean into a turn, go straight, slow down or just not fall on the bunny slope lift. We all have hopes of bigger mountains and more runs on our next ski adventures in years to come.

National Gallery of Art East Building Saturday

We went downtown last Saturday to the National Gallery of Art East Building by I.M. Pei. The kids had me take a dozen pictures of paintings so they could try something similar at home. It's fun to watch them appreciate so many types of experiences.

Caring Poet

Today was Poetry Cafe in first grade with an original poem read by its author. Alice said she was scared but it didn't show! She was brave while reading clearly a poem that described herself well. She was proud and so were Mark and I. Her poetry unit has created a treasure of different poems types we'll get to keep.

The "Caring" resolution above was posted in the hallway and too sweet not to include. We love Alice!

the best sound

My new favorite sound comes only in the morning. It's not the coffee pot brewing or dog sneezing his demands for time outside.

My favorite sound is the *thunk* *thunk* pitter-patter of four child-size feet leaving Alice's bed and running down the stairs to come snuggle with me at about 6:40 every morning. I love them both!
