Liz flew in from St. Louis on Friday with her boyfriend Josh to hang out and explore Boston. The weather was perfect for touring the neighborhoods and showing off our life in the big city. Thanks for coming Liz!!!

Update on the dog
Today I was concerned about Jackson's cast and paw because he wasn't walking on it all week. We took him to the vet to check it out. Now Jackson needs more prayer. He has a pressure sore under the cast that is now infected and might need surgical removal of necrotic tissue. He's on antibiotics and painkillers again. I've already gone back to my original nursing training to change the dressings on another pressure sore higher on his leg. That one's healing nicely since the doctor adjusted his cast to prevent more rubbing on the sore.
We are supposed to have an x-ray this week to see if the cast can come off in the next 1-2 weeks. I don't know what will happen now but Mark, Jackson and I are all so tired of the lampshade and bed rest. Even if the bone has healed we've got to get the open wounds under control. Poor, poor Jackson.

Our first Fall harvest

So for those of you who know me well, I am not the kind that can grow just any ole' carrot. So I grew purple carrots. These are heirloom carrots and are called "purple haze." The taste is much the same as a orange carrot but a little fresher since we just pulled them from the garden an hour ago. I must say that food always seems to taste better when you put your own sweat and toil into it. I am sure many of you can relate.

Best Concert
We had the best time at Ray LaMontagne 's concert last night. Check him out if you're not familiar!! He played at the Boston Opera House (much like the Fox in Atlanta) with a bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, steel slide guitar, piano/organ, and drums.

A Birthday Girl visits
Laura and baby Pearson came to visit this weekend and celebrate her birthday. It was a fun weekend of good food, shopping, and playing on the floor with baby and dog. Jackson and Pearson, thankfully, got along pretty well. It was so nice to have Laura, who has known me for so long, in this town where I'm still working on friendships.

A week in the Veneto
Emalee allowed me to take a week and visit a good friend of mine in Vicenza, Italy. My friend, Mclean Jenkins, was in Vicenza studying Andrea Palladio's work. I was there just for 5 days spending 3 days in Vicenza, a day in Verona, a day in the country side, and a day in Venice before leaving for home. My favorite day was when we rented a car and drove out through the countryside to see some of Palladio's designed villas. My driving experiences in Boston made for good preparation for the Italian drivers. This allowed me to see some of the rural areas of the Veneto region which really beautiful.
