Alice did really well at her nine month check up this week. She weighs 18 pounds and is 28 inches tall.
She's got two teeth, is crawling all over, pulling up, bouncing to the beat of her music table, makes new glu-glu sounds, loves to eat fruit and veggies, is as loud now as she's always been, smiles often, loves her daddy, chews on everything, and has had a hard time adjusting to Day Light Savings time since we travelled to a different time zone the following week. We love her like crazy and enjoy exploring new things with our inquisitive ball of energy. She'll get more loving this weekend from family and friends when we fly to Alabama for a dear friend's wedding.

Big week of travel
Two Saturdays ago we traveled to Delaware for our buddy Samuel's 1st birthday. It was a precious "Milk & Cookies" party in the Bird's house that has been so well renovated since they moved in 6 months ago. It was such a treat!
Last Monday Mark and Alice took their first trip to Chicago. It was Spring Break (a perk of grad school) and we enjoyed the city, despite the cold. Our hotel opened four months ago after an incredible renovation of a historic building steps from the Sears Tower.

It was a Happy 31st Birthday
It's been 30 whole years and I've never had a FAVORITE birthday cake. I offered equal opportunity to Yellow Cake with Caramel Icing, Italian Cream Cake, Carrot Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Coffee Ice Cream Cake and Chocolate Lava Cake. I'm now 31 and I have a favorite cake, thanks to my friend from church named Kate. Tuxedo Cake is the best cake I've ever put in my mouth. Check the link---it even beats the Chocolate Cake with layer of Cheesecake for my mom's 60th birthday. For those of you in Birmingham, Turtle Cake Bites are a close second :).
Mark had class Thursday evening so I had Rachel, Laura, Michelle and Kate come celebrate with me. We enjoyed cheesecake, chocolate toffee bites and a game of Blokus. That was my present from Mark and it's so fun. Friday night Pamela & John had us over for a delicious meal of Shrimp Scampi and mean game of Blokus. It was fun to be with a friend who has known me for over a decade. Saturday night we went to the Haber's and were joined by the Kreise's for a great meal, my (now) favorite cake, and a spontaneous play with knights and princesses by the six of the seven kids (Alice was asleep upstairs by then). I feel like we're reaching a stage where friendships are really starting to grow here in Maryland. It took so much longer in other cities I've lived in and I'm so grateful for the blessing that accompanied our move.
On a slightly different subject, Mama needs prayer. Her dormant tumors showed a little growth this month so the doctors are changing her medication. Please pray it's without side affects and works like a charm, like her last medication did for over a year.

US Botanic Garden--Living Plant Museum, DC
Mark has a friend/former coworker in Boston who lives in DC now. We joined Kelly and Steve for lunch at a fantastic tapas restaurant, Jaleo. Afterwards we walked along the Mall to the Botanic Garden Museum which was beautiful!
